28MM WIDE BELT UPGRADE. YETI CUSTOMER APPRECIATION UPGRADES (CAU).

28MM SYNCRODRIVE BELT UPGRADE

We thank you, our customers again for your feedback and learnings last winter! We appreciate your business, and we are here to build the best, most reliable YETI SNOWMX possible for all to enjoy!

What is a YETI Customer Appreciation Upgrade?

It is an offer to each customer who owns a YETI, at a very special price to allow them to upgrade their YETI with the new parts that are continuously developing.

They must be ordered from the YETI online store that will open in September 2016.

28MM SYNCRODRIVE BELT UPGRADE

We tested and rode the 21mm wide belt on many different bikes of all sizes, including turbo bikes, and even trimmed the belt to 15mm wide to ensure our belt was more than enough at 21mm wide. This winter we truly experienced the rental market, and that exposed us to some new learnings.

Rental riders would take their YETI and get it stuck and hold it wide open while sitting on the bike and drop the clutch repeatedly, hoping the bike would “hop” out of the hole they just dug with them on it. Sooner or later the belt would snap, at it would not take that shock load.

We did a blind test, and just swapped out the 21mm wide belts on the rentals for 28mm wide and did not tell anyone to ride any different. The result was no more belt breakage at all, since then.

They say ride it like you stole it (or rented it) and this has been a great learning for us. Rental customers ride YETI’s in a way the average person who purchased one probably does not, but it is our goal to build a YETI that can take all the abuse you can give it, regardless. At YETI SNOWMX we relentlessly keep improving the YETI to make it the best we can, always, period. We don’t care how hard you ride it, you should!

I have talked to customers who were mad and said “hey you said I would not need this wider belt, but now you have it on your 2017 YETI’s”, and shared that I have talked to lots of riders who never broke one belt last year, and they are not upgrading. But some riders were able to break a couple belts, and wanted the upgrade.

Each bike has different engine vibrations, harmonics, clutches, gear ratios, plus snow types, rider styles etc, there are a lot of variables.

The 21mm wide belt has an average breaking force of 5395 pounds, the 28mm wide belt has an average breaking point of 7445 pounds, substantial increase.

We learned that the 28mm wide belt will take the track ratcheting on the drivers also and it does not seem to matter, although we do not recommend it. And we learned that the 28mm wide belt can handle more range of belt tension with no problems.

How do I order? Each YETI customer can either order from your dealer of choice or order from our online store. The new store will be open in September 2016. You will be required to enter your YETI serial number to qualify for the CAU special offer.

The special price for this offer is $299 Canadian, a regular $550 package.

When ordering the CAU’s on our website they will ship to the dealer of your choice.

If there are no dealers near you, you can choose “ no dealer close to me” and we will verify this and ship it to you directly, after we verify your location.

If you have any questions about the 28mm CAU package please click the “Ask YETI” tab and send me an email.

2016 YETI SNOWMX A YEAR IN REVIEW

It’s been a great summer preparing for this winter! We’ve been testing the YETI in the dirt the heavy wet/icy frozen snow up until the start of July and on the water just for fun.  Going over every detail, working hard to make the 2017 YETI, BETTER HIGHER FASTER.

First, we thank you, our customers! All of you, who have called, emailed and given us their feedback to help us learn about their experiences, how they use their YETI SNOWMX, and how they set it up, and what they learned.  Based on customer feedback we have tweaked a few things, and learned a lot. We will share all these learnings and post them, so each of you that have a YETI can make it work for you, BETTER. Be sure to look in under the tools tab, then assemblies then tech tips for the latest info.

Next, stay tuned for video’s showing you new set up’s, which include the proper strut rod set up, for proper ski pressure in all snow conditions ( this has changed since last winter, and the original set up procedure has changed too), we will go over the limiter strap length, and how to check it, and some basic YETI maintenance items to look at.

Plus we will go over the new YETI Deflector design, and how to get your free one, part of our YETI ongoing product improvement plan.

We will also share news on our Customer Appreciation Upgrades (CAU) and how to order them.   Each customer with a YETI, can use their serial number to get an extra discount as a “Thank-you” from us on all the CAU parts, helping you, make your YETI the best it can be.

Finally, after we review the past winter, we will introduce the 2017 YETI models, the new team of professional athletes for this winter, the new online store, contests and more.

Hang on and we are going to get rolling! Here comes winter, and it is going to be awesome!

Belt Deflector (Product Improvement Plan)

YETI DEFLECTOR RECAP OF WINTER OF 2016, AND IMPROVED DESIGN FOR 16/17

Last winter, chances are I talked to you, and or your dealer about the YETI belt drive deflector. I want to thank you all for your patience as together we discovered that our new deflector was not up to the strength that we designed it to be.

You all were great! Most of you were all having so much fun riding your YETI’s that if you broke one of these deflectors, we just send you a new one (or two, or three) at no charge (customer paid shipping) to keep you rolling, and you all understood that a new product might have an issue, thank you for your patience.

When you purchase a high end product you expect support, and that is what we did, stand behind our product even when it is expensive and painful. We kept sending deflectors, while in the background kept testing and redesigning them.

By the end of the season, we gave away around 350 of them or $28,000 worth of deflectors to keep you, our customers happy not an easy thing to do in our first year of production, but that is what we do, provide support.

All that stated, this was our largest failure of last winter, and again we appreciate your patience, and even though we sent out all those parts, we still had lots of riders who never broke one.

What did we learn?

- The deflector was produced in the wrong material, after we traced it back to the supplier ( there are 6000+ types of material to produce this part in, we learned a lot)

- The way we fastened the deflector to the chassis using taper head M3 fasteners caused stress in the part as the taper head forced it’s way into the plastic taper, if you look at the picture below, when you hit a solid object, the stress went into these tapers and created a crack right to them due to the stress they were already under. Corrective action: We eliminated these fasteners and changed to a flat head with no taper.

- The incorrect material had no cold weather additive or strength, it was brittle. See the photo below. Corrective action: We changed materials and tested repeatedly.

- The bottom lip of the clear cover would flex a bit in certain snow conditions and force snow past the seal causing the belt drive to fill up with snow, and then break the belt if too much snow got in there before you noticed.  Corrective action: We added a protective lip to lock the clear cover in place and add more strength.

-The o-ring seal would come out some times upon removal of the cover. Corrective action: We have removed the seal it is no longer needed, and changed the design.

- Some customers forget to tighten their tensioner arm bolt (the 17mm nut) in the centre of the tensioner wheel. Corrective action: We have included a 8mm jamb nut to go on the end of the tensioner arm bolt.

- The failure of this part lead to our Product Improvement Plan. To us this means our original part did not meet our expectations, and because of this we will supply to each YETI customer with a serial number one new deflector and fasteners free of charge (customer pays shipping).

Then on top of all that, because we really want to make the best design possible for all our riding enjoyment, we added 1.5mm to the floor of the deflector, and then 2mm to the entire walls and outside thicknesses and in our final revision we added 3mm to the very bottom on the deflector too. The load from impact on this part is transferred into the bearing plates, the 3mm fasteners only hold the deflector to the carbon.

In the end, we have produced, and tested this part for 6 months, on rocks, curbs, logs etc, and we have not shattered one, we have cracked them, but not broken one that would leave you on the hill requiring a change. Watch our video to see a strength test of this part.

HOW get your NEW DEFLECTOR KIT

We are going to ship each Canadian YETI dealer one new Deflector for each YETI that they had ordered last season on September 30th, 2016. We are providing these parts at no charge, the customer only has to pay shipping.

Your dealer will contact you and arrange to get your new deflector to you.

If you do not hear from your dealer, or you get missed, you can goto our new YETI online store, that will be open later this month, you can order your new deflector kit there. You will need your YETI serial number to order it.

The part number for the new Deflector kit is YAPI2076, an (8) piece kit, includes a new deflector, 6 new titanium fasteners, and a 8mm jamb nut for the tensioner arm.

Select your part, proceed to the check out, you will then select your dealer that you wish to have it shipped to, then you will need to enter your payment info to pay for the shipping, and complete your order. It will get shipped to your dealer, and you can pick it up there.

If there is no dealer near you, choose the option at the bottom of the dealer list ( no dealer near me) and we will ship it to you directly.

If you paid for a deflector last winter, send me an email with a copy of your receipt, and we will provide you a credit on account here, or a second deflector at no charge.

If you have any questions, please click on the “ASK YETI” tab on the screen and fire me an email.

There is an installation video at the bottom of this message.

Thanks for your business, we are here to help!

YETI SNOWMX BETTER HIGHER FASTER

Material test photo.

Deflector hammer smash test. Parts were left out at -28 Celsius overnight, the original design was tested on both parts here in January of 2016, only test here was new material.   The Deflector shown on the right received 5 blows with the hammer to completely shatter it. The Deflector shown on the left received 15 blows with the hammer and only one chunk was broken off, though you can see the dents in the material and the places the hammer hit. After this test we proceeded to enhance the design and the thickness of the material, which again improved the strength as shown in the video.

The taper head fasteners used in the original design, pre stressed the material causing a place for the impacts to crack to. This style of fastener is not used in the new design, this issue has been  eliminated.

This video demonstrates the strength of the 2nd enhanced design, even though through months of riding, and smashing on curbs we never broke this design, we still proceeded to the 3rd design and made it even stronger.

It was time to get the boys out to go riding and test different suspensions, strut rod set ups, front suspension arm set ups and on and on. So away we went to Sicamous and the weather was perfect, clear blue sky, the snow was still 9’ deep at the cabin and slushy, but great for the YETI Platform!

We all had a blast, learned a bunch of stuff, and got in some great riding!

Stay tuned as we start to release a ton of info about what failed this past winter, how to set up your bike properly, what is new and coming plus customer testimonials.

The Utility Can assembly comes complete with 17L can, (4.5US Gal), foam mount including the drill template, rear injection moulded mount, quick pin release system, fasteners, lanyard and instructions.

We at YETI are very sorry for the delay on this accessory, and we want you out there riding your YETI as far off the trail as you can go!  Thanks for your business, go out there and climb Higher!

A big ‘YETI thanks’ to Bill Elliott and Jimmy Westray, Yamaha Canada and TOBE Canada

The YETI team would like to thank “Wild” Bill Elliott” of NASCAR and Jimmy Westray for flying up to Revelstoke B.C from Atlanta, Georgia to come test ride the YETI Snow MX conversion kits.

We would also like to thank Yamaha Canada for supplying the 2016 Yamaha YZ450FX for Bill Elliot to ride and TOBE Canada for supplying the one piece suit.

And, a big “THANK YOU” to Jeff Rosner from Rozzy Extreme Rentals in Revelstoke for guiding us all around, and giving that Revelstoke hospitality to our southern friends.

We gave Bill and Jimmy the full Revelstoke Mountain experience holding nothing back going to Turtle the first day and Joss Creek the second. We were pulling some crazy lines through the trees and up the creeks trying to loose our southern friends, but they were always right there!

Both Bill and Jimmy are great riders and could throw down with any Snow MX rider in the land. We had a great time riding with them and look towards our next ride with them in Colorado.

Bill has a passion for burning gas, and lightweight high performance quality products we are looking towards seeing Bill and Jimmy riding a YETI shortly.
